derek kaye married his schoolboy passions of music and electronics in 1973 when he constructed his first disco sound system, aged just 13. prior to this, with dj equipment something of a rarity in those days, he created a custom setup that bypassed the need for a mixer by rewiring his turntables in such a way that he could flip the sound from one deck to another, and installed a switch that would dip the music so a microphone from a portable cassette player could be used to announce the song on rotation. his work soon grew in sophistication and a new console was built, with his schoolmate, greg wilson, buying derek s old rig, thus beginning his own well-documented dj career.

i had dinner with breach in london and he told me: hey, i have a track that is really dirtybird. i would put it out but its really sounding right for you guys. i took this with a grain of salt but then i heard lets get hot and i found out he was right. it has got the swagger and the sound. it makes girls grind their asses into boys crotches on the dancefloor. perfect. signed. so i then asked him to make something even more sexual, thinking it would be ages before i got something back. 10 days later the a-side came back to me as a 2 minute clip while i was on the train to warehouse project in manchester. i liked it so much that i edited it on the train to stretch it out to 5 minute. as expected, it slayed the room and the final version breach has delivered is one of the best records of the year in my opinion. with the simple title of jack you can see for yourself when you play it. this is the real deal. love, vonstroke

kool vibes groovin ep oozes classic french house vibes form the get-go thanks to the opener no more wastin. stocato rhode stabs are met with quick-jangled percussion, cut vocals (like the french only know how) and thumping beats. underground settles down a little, maintaining a sultry groove with a chord driven hustle, while groovin is upbeat french house at its best. feel it features more juicy and looped up sample action with call and response vocals thrown in for added effect. a must have for the french house connoisseur.

remastered reissue featuring three fantastic hard-to-find classic rump shakers from hamilton bohannon. bohannon was one of the key forces in disco in the seventies and this is him at his best - his instantly recognisable sound is pure uncut boogie mixing riffing guitars, bad-ass funky bass and pounding drum tracks. first up is the super-rare long 12 inch version of me & the gang a superbly funky track popular with everyone from tony humphries to carl craig with its great chunky beats & a killer piano groove later sampled by paul johnson for his hit get get down, followed by the groove i feel - a monstrously good floor-filling gem unearthed from his 76 album dance your ass off. on the flip you get the awesome full 12:45 minute version of maybe you can dance another slamming disco-funk stomper only ever available as an elusive 1977 12 inch promo. quality stuff!

the recordings for the wires cracked were completed in a frenzied two week period in october of 2012. i had mentioned in discussing a previous albums construction that i prefer to forget how i build any particular electro-acoustic amalgam. this is so that i dont get to precious with them, so that i could refine them further, so that the sounds themselves speak beyond their aggregate parts. with the album being relatively fresh in my mind, i can still recall various components to the wires cracked -- the desolate howl of a metal screen activated by a desert wind, the hissing air compression from the cooling apparatus for a laser at the slac national accelerator laboratory operated by stanford university, and the tremolo rhythms from a thin wire that still get me thinking fondly of günter schickert -- but much of the caustic drone, thrumming reverberation, and tactile grit thoroughly escapes me. that is probably for the best, since these various parts speak to an existential rupturing, the collapse of the self, the aftershocks of dark energy, and a belief in the hope for renewal. albinos has now been meaning to open communication channels with the baka pigmy tribe for quite some time, sadly to mixed results… this indeed represents a rather difficult task considering their take on the devil is a tall white man graced with white hair and red eyes! even though the baka people is a peaceful one, the legend goes that if they were to catch that albino devil, they would gut its organs out and turn those into an aphrodisiac concoction. strangely enough, albinos believes that his music just might be the best language to turn those antagonistic feelings into a communion, he even dreams of performing his tunes to the whole tribe, deep within the jungle, surrounded with exotic birds and the most hungry kind of predators! somewhat at times on the verge of irony, his music definitively trades with sketchy, raw and deep emotions, always sincere in the making: always a few steps away from the pre-shaped house and techno idioms, he offers his very own take on dance music, a most peculiar one. solely using old cheap hardware and an antique atari, the tracks at hand are one-take live performances, brutal incarnations of albinos simple virgin vision. as the quest for the baka people goes on, the antinote team is proud to help shed light on the journey of this obscure producer hailing from the grand north.
